1) [All Instruments] My serial and/or reg code isn't accepted. When I install Cakewalk on Windows Vista, why do I get the error, "Not Logged in as Administrator"?
There could be an issue with Vista's User Account Control. Right-click the Cakewalk shortcut you use and choose "Properties." Then click the "Advanced" button at the bottom of the window that opens. You'll be able to check "Run as Administrator" there. Click OK and from then on Cakewalk will run in admin mode when it's launched from that shortcut. You will then be able to enter your Serial and Registration Code.

Note: This is a property of the shortcut, not Cakewalk. If Cakewalk is launched by other means, like from the Start Menu, it will not run in admin mode. But, that same property can be set on that shortcut as well. Please click here for more information on Vista's User Account Control

2) [All Instruments] Not all of my programs are showing up in the Program Browser. My expansion packs are not available.
Press "F5" with focus on the Program Browser this will automatically update and refresh the Program list.

3) [All Instruments] I get the error message “Program Not Properly Installed”.
On some newer machines shipped with Windows pre-installed, you may receive the following error message when starting one of the Cakewalk applications listed above: "The Program is not properly installed. Please reinstall from the original CD." This error has been noticed on a few Windows Vista OEM machines, where the operating system was installed and configured by the manufacturer.

The first thing to try, as the message suggests, is rebooting your computer and reinstalling from the program disk.

If that fails to resolve the issue, it may be a case where the following registry location is not defined on the OEM Windows installation.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Shell Folders - "Common AppData"

On x64 machines there is an additional location that is used for 32 bit applications:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders - "Common AppData"

The patchAppData updater below will determine if your system is missing these values and automatically add the appropriate values to the registry.

Note: that running this updater will not make any change to your registry unless the above values are missing. If the problem persists, please contact Cakewalk Technical Support.

AppDataPatch

To run:
  1. Download the patchAppData.exe file and save it to your desktop.
  2. Make sure that your Windows user account has administrative priveleges.
  3. On XP you can just double click the file to run it. On Vista, right click the file and choose "Run as Administrator".
  4. Click OK in the dialog to run the program. The program will display a confirmation of any changes made to the registry.

4) [Dimension Pro] I'm seeing the error message "Error Decompressing Program Data" when opening programs from Dimension Pro.
This error message appears when attempting to open a Program that was created with later version of Dimension Pro. First make sure that you have updated Dimension Pro to 1.2 via the following instructions: http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/kb2005302.asp If you already have installed the Dimension Pro 1.2 update, please verify that all of your Dimension Pro.dll files have been replaced with the later versions. Perform a file search for Dimension Pro.dll. View the properties of all of the Dimension Pro.dll files. Remove any Dimension Pro.dll that reads to be version 1.1.0.79. Make sure that all of your Dimension Pro version numbers read 1.2.0.214 or later.

5) [Dimension Pro] I’m experiencing "stuck notes" (note off messages don't seem to be working) with Dimension Pro inside of Cubase or Cubase LE. Make sure you have downloaded the Dimension Pro VST patch found here: http://www.cakewalk.com/support/kb/kb20070829.asp

6) [Dimension Pro] I can’t see Dimension Pro in Digital Performer. It is possible that Dimensions Pro’s UI my not be visible when instantiated in Digital Performer if an Audio Bundle is not specified for Dimension Pro’s output. Please view this screenshot to see an example of setting an Audio Bundle as an output…

Additionally, be sure you have the MAS engine properly configured and assigned to an audio driver. This option can be found here: Setup | Configure Audio Hardware | Configure Hardware Drivers. Once the Dimension track is inserted it needs a "new audio output bundle". It feels a little counterintuitive because you simply choose whatever physical outputs you are using, so it doesn't seem like you are actually putting a new output pair into the project. After you do that for the output of the track, Dimension Pro interface will show up. If you just assign it to the existing 1/2 output bundle, it will not work. You need to choose new output, even though you'll really just be choosing the same 1/2 outputs.

7) [Dimension Pro] I get the error “Multi Sample Path Not Found” when loading my programs. Or I want to move my samples to a different drive.
You will get this error if you try to move the Dimension Pro Samples folder to a different location or drive after installing. Go to Start | Run type REGEDIT and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Dimension Pro. Change the "MultiSamples Folder" to the correct path by double-clicking. Close the registry and re-launch Dimension Pro.

8) [Dimension Pro] I can't launch Dimension Pro on its own. There is no icon to launch it.

The factory version of Dimesion Pro is a DXi, VSTi , AU or RTAS synth only. This means you need a host DAW like SONAR or Logic in order to launch it.

Although a standalone version of Dimension Pro wasn't included with the factory installer, there is one available (for Dimension Pro only). You can download it here.

10) [Rapture and Dimension Pro] I can't see Rapture/Dimensoion Pro under Vista x64.

If you are attempting to use the 64bit version of Rapture please make sure that you install the Rapture 1.1 update. You can download the update here: Rapture 1.1

If you are attempting to run Dimension Pro on x64, please read these 2 articles:

http://www.cakewalk.com/support/kb/kb20080922.asp

http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/kb20081008.asp

If you are attempting to use the 32bit edition of Rapture under a 64 bit OS, unfortunately the Rapture 1.1 installer does not allow the option to install the 32bit binaries on a 64bit machine. This issue will be resolved with a future patch of Rapture. In the meantime you can try installing Rapture 1.0 (which installs a 32bit VST). This will allow you to run the Rapture 1.0 inside your 32bit hosts.

You can also modify your Rapture 1.1 installation to allow it to work with your 32bit hosts:

  • Install Rapture 1.0 and the 1.1 update onto a 32 bit Windows system (I used Windows XP). Copy the Rapture.dll VSTi file onto a removable media.
  • On the Vista 64 computer, install Rapture 1.0. Change the install location to C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Rapture from the default location of C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Rapture (the C:\Program Files (x86)\ directory is the default install location of 32 bit applications in Vista 64).
  • Install the Rapture 1.1 update. The default install directory is C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Rapture and can be left as it is so that it overwrites the 1.0 version.
  • In your plugins folder, replace the Rapture.dll file with the Rapture.dll file you copied from your 32 bit computer. As an alternative, if you want to have both 64 bit and 32 bit Rapture available, you can rename the installed Rapture.dll to Rapture64.dll and copy over the 32 bit Rapture.dll from your removable media. You can then use the 64 bit Rapture in a 64 bit host like Sonar 64.
  • Open the command prompt in 'Administrator mode' (by right-clicking the shortcut in the start menu and selecting 'Administrator mode') and type: regsvr32 C:\path to your vstplugins folder\Rapture.dll You should get a dialog box pop up to say that the procedure was successful.
  • Type 'regedit' into the command prompt and find: 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Rapture'. Copy the contents of this folder (all the string values you see there) to: 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Cakewalk Music Software\Rapture'. Make sure both are identical.
  • Rescan the VST plugins folder from within your host.
