New Features in VS-700 1.1.1
- Channel Branch Mode - In this handy mode Fader 1 controls the volume of the selected track with faders 2-8 also controlling the associated sends for the selected track. It's an effective big board mixing technique available at the push of a button
- Full featured and powerful ARX expansion board editor that emulates the graphic interface of the Fantom synthesizer
- Default ACT mappings for all synthesizer and processer plug-ins included in SONAR 8
- Navigate plug-in presets from the surface
- Finer resolution option for the rotary encoders

Control Surface + SONAR Issues Resolved
- Compatibility for SONAR 8.3.1
- Soloing layers now correctly displays layer mute states
- Instrument tracks can now be armed
- Pan encoders now indicated "SRRND" when routing a track to a surround bus
- Surround width control is now available from the control surface
- Surround joystick can now control panning from sends
- Improve sync between fader positions and values displayed on the LCD
- SHIFT + WHEEL now correctly fades clips
- [ARM] lights now reset properly after exiting plug-in mode
- Instrument tracks can now be frozen
- Send gain display is now properly displayed in LCD for both the Faders and the Channel Strip Control Section
- Flip did not always assign encoder parameters to faders
- Encoder assignments sometimes did not display correctly in the LCD
- After exiting layer mode, it was sometimes difficult to select tracks from the VS-700C
- Under rare circumstances, turning a pan encoder left 1 click caused the pan value to drastically pan right
- Automation now works correctly for instrument tracks
VS-700 Control Surface Plug-in Issues Resolved
- Footswitch assignments are now working correctly
- In the Direct Mix page, "Synth 2" was incorrectly labeled as "Synth 21"
- In Mic Pre page "Gain" label was missing for input 8
- Deleting the VS-700 Control Surface Plug-in sometimes caused a crash
- Mic pre-amp gain settings now accuratley reflecting actual gain of 20dB-64dB
- Presets now saving correctly when using two VS-700R units
Fantom VS Editor Issues Resolved
- New warning message for when trying to insert a 2nd instance of the Fantom VS
- MFX type "05 Super Filter" parameter group is now correctly named "FILTER"
- MFX type "10 Speaker Simulator" parameter group name is now correctly named "LEVEL"
Installation Instructions
In order to install this update you must be a registered SONAR V-Studio 700 customer and have installed the SONAR 8.3 update. To register click here. To install this update simply download and run the file VStudioPatch.exe This update also includes a firmware update for the VS-700R. Installation instructions for the firmware update are below. You can also find a .pdf of these instuctions in the .zip file
VS-700R Firmware update procedure:
- Download the file FantomVS_v110.zip from the SONAR V-Studio 1.1 firmware link below
- Un-zip the package by right-clicking on it and choosing "Extract All" Note: be sure to unzip it to a location on your computer that you can find later
- Turn off the VS-700R and disconnect the USB cable
- Ensure that the only connection made to the VS-700R is the power cable
- Remove the expansion cover located on the VS-700R's top panel
- At SW1, located at the far right, flip switch "4" up to the ON position. All other switches should remain in the OFF (down) position as shown in the following image:
- On the left side of the VS-700R's front panel, set the SAMPLE RATE knob to "192 kHz"
- Switch on the VS-700R's power
- Verify that the [USB], [CONSOLE], [MIDI IN], and [MIDI OUT] LEDs on the VS-700R's front panel are blinking
- Move switch "4" of SW1 back to the "OFF" position on the VS-700R as shown in the following image:
- Verify that the LED's that were blinking in step 10 have stopped blinking
- Connect a USB cable from the VS-700R to your computer
- Verify that the VS-700R's [USB] and [MIDI OUT] LED's are illuminated
- Open the 'FantomVS_v110' folder on your computer that you just downloaded and unzipped
- Locate and start the application 'UpdSMFJ.exe' by double-clicking on it
- In the "MIDI Out Device" field, select [FANTOM VS (VS-700)]
- In the "SMF Path" specify the name of the folder that contains the FantomVSUpdate.mid file. This should be the FantomVS_v110 folder unless you moved it. You can browse to it by clicking the Path button
- Click Scan SMF and verify that the file is loaded
- Click Send
- Data transmission will being and the VS-700R's [MIDI IN] LED will blink. Your computer will show a progress bar
- The update takes about three minutes to complete NEVER turn off the power while the update is in progress.
- When the VS-700R's [MIDI IN] and [MIDI OUT] LEDs both blink, the update has completed
- In the UpdSMF utility the Send SMF Complete dialog box will appear, click OK
- In the UpdSMF click EXIT to close the utility
- Switch off the VS-700R's power
- Switch on the VS-700R - the update is complete, you can now replace the expansion cover
